Carol pilots shopping for spirituality package

Sainsbury’s has been offering spirituality in a handy new package.  A faith in the workplace course has been on special offer to Sainsbury’s staff at the stores support centre in Holborn.

Carol Ball, a project manager with Sainsbury’s and a Church of England ‘lay reader’ on Canvey Island, Essex, piloted this voluntary programme for a group of colleagues from the Christian, Muslim and Sikh faiths.

Carol BallThe group met after work every week and followed materials that Carol adapted from Chelmsford diocese resources to meet Sainsbury’s equality and diversity policies. The five-week course raised awareness of faith issues at work and fostered greater respect for people and their different faiths.

‘Work is a faith issue,’ said Carol. ‘Believers from many faith traditions are committed to using their skills creatively.  Our faiths require us to value good working relationships and use money and other resources wisely.’

Carol has now been asked to present a review of the programme to a group of senior executives including Sainsbury’s main board director with responsibility for equality and diversity.
