Plough Sunday tractor blessing

THE Plough Sunday congregation at Burnham-on-Crouch were treated to the real thing thanks to local farmers John and Andrew Sadler who loaned their tractor and plough.

Plough Sunday is a traditional English celebration of the beginning of the agricultural year that has seen somerevival over recent years.

Canon Hugh Beavan, parish priest of St Mary's, said: "In blessing the plough and seed we are asking for God's blessing upon a vital part of this rural community's life.

"It was an opportunity to pray for the farms and farmers of our parish, and across the world. It also gave us an opportunity to call to mind all those affected by hunger and drought".
