Set All Free is spectacular
A SPECIAL service to commemorate the bicentenary of the abolition of the Slave Trade Act, ‘Set All Free' was held at Chelmsford Cathedral on the 200th anniversary, March 25.An address was given by Baroness Scotland of Asthal, Minister of State at the Home Office, and the service included a personal reflection from Canon Justin McKenzie.
African dancing featured performed by a cultural group from St Matthew's Church, West Hamand children from Bishops' C of E and R C Primary and Barnes Farm Junior Schools and Chelmer Valley High School enacted scenes from the history of the slave trade. Special music was composed by Peter Nardone who directed the cathedral choir.
The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Revd John Gladwin and the Bishop of Brentwood, the Rt Revd Thomas McMahon, were among the church leaders present. The service was arranged by the Bishop's Chaplain, Revd Chris Newlands.
