Marks Tey revamped

THE £160,000 redevelopment of a north Essex church is entering its final stages.
Work on the 900-year-old St Andrew's Church, in Marks Tey, started last October.
It has included the removal of the multi-levelled floor and the installation of new lights,
an under-floor heating system, lighted pathways, and a new entrance for the adjoining hall.

The last structural addition- a single-level Yorkstone floor - has been laid.
It incorporates a grave slab found buried in November among Victorian fill material, a foot beneath the chancel floor.

Churchwarden Andrew Waters said a report by the Colchester Archaeological Trust has confirmed that it is dated about 1360, and appears to belong to Robert de Tey and his wife Katherine.
