Beacon is more than a Church

WORK will start soon on fitting out an ecumenical church and community centre in Chafford Hundred, Grays.

A £400,000 grant from Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (TTGDC) will enable the
shell of the Beacon church to be fitted out for the benefit of the whole community as well as church worship.

The multi-purpose rooms will be for use by many groups, including primary care trust health visitors, parents, toddlers groups, children's services, community mums and the Chafford Hundred Community Forum.

Niall Lindsay, chief executive of TTGDC, said: "The Corporation has provided a grant of £400,000 to
ensure that the churches can complete the building and develop it into a centre for the community, as
well as a place for people to worship in harmony."

Revd Mike Aston, who chairs the Beacon project, added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of
Chafford Hundred. I am delighted that the development corporation has given its support to the project.

"The group of four churches which owns the building, is committed to using it for the good of the wider
community. Members of both the churches and the community raised the money that was spent on the
original construction project.
