Bishop John: Put people before policy
COUNTY councillors, mayors and local government staff were asked to place people before policies when the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Right Revd John Gladwin addressed the Essex Civic Service at Chelmsford cathedral. The Bishop reminded the decision makers in the county that "it is
to God that all of us are accountable." He said planning for the future should "begin with a human agenda,
the things that make people's lives wholesome, then the planners should think of the provision of
homes and services in the county."
Worshippers were welcomed by the chairman of the county council, Cllr Gerard McEwen and the
lessons were read by the Lord Lieutenant for Essex, the Lord Petre and by the High Sherriff, Lady Kemp-
Welch. The service was conducted by the Dean, Very Revd Peter Judd. A reception was held at County Hall.
