Chinkney hosts Easter Services
EASTER in the five Parishes benefice near Great Dunmow was a particularly uplifting and special time with a Service of Meditation at the rarely-used church at Chickney, conductedby Rector, Revd Canon Gillian Greenslade.
This church is no longer available for services, being in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
"Good Friday is one occasion when The Five Parishes are able to use it," said Gillian.
"In the peace and quiet of this very special place, set amongst the trees, the church was lit only by candles, as there is no electricity, and simply decorated with palm leaves and a few lilies.
"The service was very moving with readings by members of the Five Parishes relating events leading to
the trial and crucifixion of Jesus.
"As the Service ended, everyone quietly left the church, processing behind a simple wooden cross
assembled during the service."
The Five Parishes maintained the tradition of giving a donation from the collection to the Churches
Conservation Trust.
The Five Parishes is the colloquial name for the United Parish of Broxted with Chickney, Tilty, Great Easton and Little Easton with working churches in the four remaining parishes.
