Christians in the Workplace

Introduction

Ever wondered whether your work matters to God? Ever wondered why you spend 60-70% of your waking life at work? Ever wondered what your work is for? Ever wanted to make connections between your faith and your work but have never heard work discussed seriously in your Church?

If you have thought any of these things, then the Christians in the Workplace resource pack is for you. It is full of ideas, information, stories, resources and study materials that will help you (and your parish) explore these and many other questions about being a Christian in the workplace.

The resource pack takes a broad non-prescriptive view of what being a Christian at work can mean by exploring ethics, mission, spirituality, transformation, values and witness among others issues and approaches.

Bishop John writes

We all work; whether paid or voluntary - in our homes, our communities, our church and at many different workplaces. As Christians, our work can be one of the most important ways in which we offer ourselves to God. In this way, work can become worship. That is why I am so pleased to commend this resource pack to you, your parish or workplace. It provides ideas and inspiration for making work into worship and enabling us to bring our faith and our work together.

Work can also be a place where we make a difference to families, communities, customers, colleagues and suppliers. Making that difference where we are can be part of our mission and ministry as Christians. Our work can be a place where we meet with God in the people we meet, the tasks we undertake, the situations we encounter and in all that we see and hear along the way.

God himself is always at work to do new things in our world and part of our job as Christians is to look out for the new things that God is doing and to get involved in nurturing and encouraging them.

My prayer is that through using this pack you will see God at work in your workplace in new ways and find that you are enabled to make connections between your work and your faith in ways that previously seemed unlikely or impossible.
