Bishop of Barking

Bishop DavidThe Rt Revd David Hawkins was consecrated bishop on 17 October 2002 and began his public ministry as Anglican Bishop of Barking in the Diocese of Chelmsford in January 2003. He has special responsibility for mission and parish development. The Barking area comprises the five East London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest, together with the Epping Forest and Harlow districts of west Essex. The population is 1.3 million and it includes a wide mix of ethnicity and culture. The area comprises 166 churches, 60 of which are set in ‘urban priority area’ parishes. The Barking area also includes the main site for the 2012 Olympic games in London.

Bishop of Bradwell

Bishop LaurieThe Rt Revd Dr Laurie Green was consecrated bishop on 23 February 1993. He has special repsonsibility for regeneration. The Bradwell area is so named because in 654 A.D. St Cedd, having salied from Lindisfarne, built his chapel at Bradwell-on-Sea, a remote rural community. The Area comprises Brentwood, Basildon, Chelmsford, Maldon and Dengie, Hadleigh, Southend-on-Sea, Thurrock and Rochford. The population is around 900,000. There are 9 deaneries, 161 parishes and 186 church buildings. The Bradwell Episcopal Area is a wide and diverse area north of the River Thames, made up of urban, suburban, rural, town centre and seaside communities. A significant part of the Government's Thames Gateway regeneration focus falls within the Episcopal Area.

Bishop of Colchester

Bishop ChristopherThe Rt Revd Christopher Morgan was consecrated bishop on 6 December 2001. He began his public ministry in the Diocese on 3 February 2002 at the Chelmsford Cathedral. He has special responsibility for clergy and lay ministry. He leads the Colchester Episcopal area of the Diocese of Chelmsford. The Colchester Episcopal area comprises of Braintree, Colchester, Dedham and Tey, Dunmow and Stansted, Harwich, Hinckford, Saffron Walden and Newport, St Osyth and Witham. The population of the area is around 500,000 and it has 228 churches. The area has great links to the rest of the world with Stansted airport and Harwich seaport.
