Back to Church Sunday 2007

Back to Church Sunday

72% of people in Britain are Christian according to the most recent Census (2001). A survey published by Tearfund in 2007 found that one in seven adults go to church every month.

“Back to Church Sunday” on 30 September 2007 is a day when parishes across the country make an effort to be especially “user friendly” to visitors. The regional assembly of the Church of England in Essex and East London (Diocesan Synod) has given its wholehearted support to joining in this national initiative.

The chief executive of Chelmsford diocese, Steven Webb, has said: “The concept is simple. There are many people who have at some time been involved with church who no longer attend. The aim is to welcome those people back to God and the church. The key is the personal invitation to come in.”
