THE Bishop of Colchester, Rt Revd Christopher Morgan, has given his backing to an initiative by the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel: Anglicans in World Mission to recruit one or more associate mission advisers in the diocese.
This voluntary role involves supporting USPG's regional co-ordinator in encouraging an interest in world mission amongst parishes and individuals, and listening out for local opportunities for publicity and awareness-raising.
USPG works through Anglican churches in more than 50 countries around the world, helping them to reach out to poor and marginalised communities in practical and life-changing ways and to speak out on behalf of those who are abandoned, ignored and neglected.
Bishop Christopher said: "Both when I was in South India during sabbatical leave in the autumn of 2007 and throughout last summer's Lambeth Conference, I became very aware of the huge potential for mutual enrichment that links with our partners in other areas of the Anglican Communion can bring.
"USPG can certainly help us in the appropriate sharing of personnel, practical resources and narratives of fruitful outreach and service.
"Believe it or not, it is exciting being an Anglican Christian in God's world today!"
