Canon Chris Bard

It is with great sadness that we have learnt that Canon Chris Bard died suddenly on Sunday 2nd September 2007, aged 55, whilst travelling to Dublin on a broadcasting project.

The Bishop of Bradwell, the Right Reverend Laurie Green, says:

“Our hearts go out to Chris’s wife Mary, and all the Bard family, at this tragic time.  Chris’s contribution to the church in Essex, over more than 25 years, has been extraordinary, and this was recognised in 2003 when he was made an Honorary Canon of the Cathedral.  So many people in the county will know and love Chris’s voice through his many years as Religious Programmes Producer for BBC Essex.  His work in Chelmsford Diocese as Communications Officer throughout the 1980s made a huge impact and helped to enhance the public’s perceptions of the Church of England.  And, whilst holding all these briefs, Chris has been a much loved and hard-working parish priest and colleague as Team Vicar in Epping Upland.  I owe a personal debt of gratitude to Chris for sharing his wisdom and friendship with me through the years.  He will be hugely missed, and will leave a great vacuum of knowledge and experience.”
