Children, young people and schools
We offer a Christian perspective on children's care and learning, and seek to influence policy in partnership with parents, teachers and education authorities. We encourage children and young people to grow in the Christian faith and come to maturity in Jesus Christ in the belief that the image of God is to be found in every human being. We believe that helping children and young people to develop and learn is fundamental to human dignity and the worth of each person.
We are involved with children's work in the parishes of the diocese. We fulfil a responsibility for the welfare of all children within the whole education system. We help people to learn how to care for children and young people and how to work with them.
We have a historic role in education and we are committed to upholding the highest educational standards. We support and resource 139 church schools in Essex and East London and we are committed to improving opportunities for all learners. Our schools have a distinctive Christian ethos and value system - and they are open to all.
Clergy and lay leaders seek to build good relationships with schools and colleges of all kinds. Many of them are school governors. They are available to assist all schools with their duty to provide collective worship, offer pastoral support and facilitate groups using churches as an educational resource.
