Continuing Ministerial Training Adviser
The Reverend Dr Graham Hamborg
Since September 2004 I have been the CME Adviser for the Bradwell Episcopal Area.
Before taking up this appointment I was, for eighteen years, vicar of the parish of Ruscombe and Twyford, near Reading, in the Diocese of Oxford. I was also Area Dean of the Sonning Deanery. Previously I had been a Team Vicar in Slough (1980-86) and a curate in Birmingham (1977-80).
I have been appointed to divide my time between being
- CME Adviser for the Bradwell Area
- CME Co-ordinator for Years 1-4 for the whole of Chelmsford Diocese
Additionally I work with colleagues in the Barking and Colchester Episcopal Areas in the provision of training events for Clergy and Readers.
In the Bradwell Area
- All licensed Clergy and Readers have entitlement to an annual CME Grant – I am able to authorise use of this for appropriate training events
- If you are not sure where to go to find the training you feel you need, I should be able to help you – or if not, to find someone who can
- If you are not quite sure what your training needs are, I can come and see you in a consultancy capacity
- I can give information about sabbaticals, and about registered courses of study and training
- I can help deaneries or groups of parishes arrange training days, half-days or evenings for Clergy and/or Readers
In my role as Bradwell Area CME Adviser I also provide learning support to training incumbents and curates in Years 1-4.
I also arrange the annual Bradwell Area Clergy Study Day and periodic training events for Readers, and am always happy to receive comments on these, and suggestions for them.
CME Years 1 - 4
In this part of my work I arrange
- To provide training to those incumbents whom the Area Bishops have identified as training incumbents with whom they will place curates
- A network of Theological Reflection Groups for curates which I also support
- A programme of residential weekends and training days for curates
If you would like to know more about this, please contact me.
Diocesan CME Provision
While I am diocesan coordinator for CME Years 1-4, the Barking Area CME Adviser, Jill Mowbray co-ordinates CME activities for Clergy Years 5+, and the Colchester Area CME Adviser Tim Bull for Readers. Between us we provide and staff:
- First Incumbency and Incumbency Skills Courses
- New Posts Conferences
- Pre-Retirement Courses
- Church Leadership Programme (with Canon Roger Matthews)
- Training for Rural/Area Deans
- Reader Quiet Days and Training
-
Other Training as requested
No one person can ever keep abreast of all the many high quality training opportunities available in and to the Church of the twenty-first century. So if you have experienced a really valuable piece of training that you think others could benefit from too, I should love to hear from you about it.
