IMAGINATIVE children got creative to help the Bishop of Chelmsford launch his Lent appeal.

Pupils from the Cathedral Primary School, in Victoria Road, Chelmsford, designed artwork and wrote poetry for Bishop John's appeal, which this year focuses on street children and orphans in poor communities.

More than 35 pupils gathered at Chelmsford Cathedral to show the Bishop their work, inspired by the February cover of The Month (see inset).

Bishop John said: "I was very struck by the poetry emphasising the gap between our experience and that of children living in poverty across the world. The children had produced some wonderful work."

Head teacher Marian Emuss added: "The thoughts and feelings of the children were very impressive and it showed that they really appreciated and understood the significance of the appeal."

The Bishop's Lent Appeal is raising money to support Christian Aid and Church Mission Society projects helping children in Honduras, India and Kenya.
