Curates strengthen links with Kenyans
SIX curates and a youth worker from the Diocese of Chelmsford are pictured with retired Archbishop Dr David Gitari during their visit to Chelmsford's link dioceses of Embu and Kirinyaga in Kenya.
They spent a fortnight visiting churches, schools and social projects in both dioceses and gained a valuable insight into Anglican church life in Kenya.
Both weekends were spent working alongside local ministry teams in parishes and all the group took part in pastoral visiting, parish meetings and leading and preaching at Sunday services.
During the trip, they also visited St Andrew's Theological College at Kabare to meet students and staff and to sample lectures and worship at the college.
The group also managed to visit the parish church of St Jerome in the Kibera slum outside Nairobi and hear at first hand how it was affected by the political unrest.
This year Chelmsford is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its link with the Kenyan dioceses of
Embu, Kirinyaga, Mbeere and Meru which was set up by Archbishop David Gitari when he was diocesan bishop for Mount Kenya East.
