How the other half live!
To raise awareness of ‘how the other half live’, Area Dean of Barking & Dagenham Revd Roger Gayler has volunteered to shave off half of his beard He will be conducting services, school assemblies and lots of meetings with this striking new look.
Of course, Roger isn’t doing this just for fun! He’s being sponsored to raise money for the overseas development charity, Christian Aid.
The money raised will go to support Christian Aid's work overseas with some of the world's poorest people, helping to bring hope and lasting change for those who need it most. For example a donation of £38 could be used to help young men in Spanishtown, Jamaica, who might otherwise be drawn into violent crime, to get vocational training as a trainee barber as a means to escape poverty. A trainee barber needs lots of equipment to get started so as well as the training they receive our partner Children First also provides the trainees with a kit including hair clippers, razors, shampoo and shaving cream. Helping the young men to style their way to a better future!
You can support Roger through sponsoring him in person, donating through the charity fundraising website ‘Justgiving’, by visiting www.justgiving.com/rogergayler or by sending a cheque made payable to Christian Aid in an envelope marked ‘For Roger Gayler’s ‘How the other half live appeal’ addressed to Emma Kevan, Christian Aid London Unit, 35 Lower Marsh, London, SE1 7RL.
Christian Aid works with the world’s poorest people, whatever their race or faith, in nearly 50 countries overseas. They tackle the causes and consequences of poverty and injustice. Inspired by their values of hope, justice, courage and honesty, we are committed to seeing a just world - now not just in the future.
