Unemployment - churches offer prayers and support

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that many people are finding things tough at the moment. These statistics have been analysed for each community in Essex and East London by Revd Raymond Draper, the Bishop of Chelmsford’s Adviser for Unemployment.

Calm wedding day jitters at UK Wedding Show

Couples attending this year's UK Wedding Show at ExCeL next weekend (6 -7 February) will be able to ask for prayer to calm their wedding day nerves by visiting the Church of England's stand (stand 171) and filling out a specially designed prayer card.

Bishop blesses life-saving helicopter

The acting Bishop of Chelmsford did a blessing with a difference this week: he blessed the Essex Air Ambulance helicopter and Air Crew. The Right Reverend Dr Laurie Green came to Boreham Airbase, where the helicopter is based and prayed for the crew and the people whom the Air Ambulance helps.

Bishop presents prizes to Christmas card competition winners

The Bishop of Barking, Rt Revd David Hawkins, has presided over prizegivings for his 2009 'Design the Bishop's Christmas Card' competition. The artistic task set by Bishop David was to illustrate the theme of 'The true meaning of Christmas' and design the card that he will be sending to his friends and colleagues this Christmas.

Church bells will ring out a call for climate action

Churches around the world will ring their bells 350 times on Sunday 13 December. The bells will call people to prayer and action aimed at rapidly reducing CO2 in order to avoid irreversible impacts such as the melting of the Greenland ice sheet and major methane releases from increased permafrost melt.

Church spells out welcome
