The Letter to the Hebrews: A New Testament letter which makes no sense without the Old Testament. The Psalms as a Resource for the Life of Prayer. Can we be as honest before God as some of the psalmists were? Using the Old Testament today. How does it get used, and how should it get used, in the life of the Church and in personal Bible reading? Can we cope with a God who appears to demand mass exterminations? Is the God of the Old Testament truly the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ?

Tutor: Revd. Graham Hamborg                                                                                           Thursday evenings 7:30-9:30pm

Module Lent 8: Mission Shaped Introduction

New world, new church? Our world and our lives have changed radically in the last twenty years, but has the church adapted to this change? Do we need a changed church for a changing world? Are new forms of church really possible? The aim of this module is to explore the ‘why’ of creating fresh expressions of church rather than the ‘how’. The six week course takes us on a journey looking at the ever-changing nature of our social communities and why the church needs to rethink its approach to those communities in meaningful and relevant ways.

This module is particularly useful for those who are considering doing the mission shaped ministry course in the future.

The whole of the Old Testament as you’ve never seen it before! In Church we usually look at small passages in the Bible but how often do we step back and look at the BIG picture. During this day we will see how the Old Testament books of History, Poetry and Prophecy relate to each other using active learning techniques which make the learning experience fun and memorable. All you will need is a Bible and something to write with.

When you’ve attended a Walk Thru’ you’ll be able to: Arrange the major people, places and events of the Old Testament in chronological order. Locate the major geographical points and movements of the Old Testament. Tie together the structure of the Old Testament books. Read the Bible and pray with a new understanding and rekindled desire.

When you’ve attended a Walk Thru’ you’ll be able to: Understand why there are four Gospels rather than one. Arrange the major events of the life of Jesus and the Apostles in chronological order.
