A spokesman for Chelmsford Diocese has today said: "Occupy Southend have set up camp in the churchyard of St Mary's Church in Prittlewell since last Sunday, 19th February without any warning, notice or request. "The churchyard is holy ground used for burials and interment of ashes; this occupation is unlawful; and it is distracting St Mary's from serving the local community..."
