'On earth as in heaven' - Bishop of Chelmsford's Lent Appeal 2008
When we pray for God’s will to be done ‘on earth as in heaven’, we have to be prepared for God’s response to be the challenge – ‘great, you can help’! Everywhere we turn nowadays we see news about climate change and the effect the human race is having on our planet. The way the rich, developed world works is having a devastating impact on our climate. The poorest people are the hardest hit. This cannot go on.
As Christians we hear the call to act, knowing God’s love for all he has created, and knowing God’s sadness and anger at this injustice. This Lent we are supporting projects that work with some of the world's poorest people, in places that are already suffering the effects of climate change. Everyone can do something. We must take action. Let’s make earth more like heaven.
Join us this year to support projects that show care for God’s world and God’s people. And join us to pray ‘your will be done’.
Our appeal is supporting Christian Aid’s climate change fund projects (including CCDB’s work in Bangladesh), Hand in Hand’s work in Kenya and the Mothers’ Union Family Life Programme in Uganda. As part of our ongoing programme of support for St Andrew’s Theological College in Kabare, Kenya, ten per cent of our final total will be donated to the college library.
