Taking Pleshey to the Parishes

THE Diocesan House of Retreat at Pleshey celebrates its centenary next year.

Warden Sheila Coughtrey and her dedicated team offer an excellent and varied choice of quiet days and retreats.

Now a new initiative will bring Pleshey to parishes.

‘Pleshey in the Parishes' will start with a taster day at St John's, Southend, on Saturday, February 16, with the the support of the Team Rector Revd Stephen Burdett.

The theme for the day is ‘Prayer' and will consist of three talks each followed by a quiet time for reflection or meditation plus an opportunity for spiritual advice, counsel or confession.

The day will be led by the Archdeacon of Southend, Ven David Lowman, assisted by Stephen Burdett and members of Pleshey's house team.

The taster day will start at 10am with tea or coffee and end at 4pm after evening prayer, there will be a onehour break for lunch (bring your own) but tea, coffee and soft drinks will be
provided.

As a contribution to St John's costs for heating, there will be a small charge of £2.50.

There is no parking at St John's but there is ample parking available close by in
the Royals shopping centre and public car parks.

If you wish to attend (and you don't have to be in the Southend Archdeaconary to do so), or would like further details, contact Colin Burwell on 01702 480593.

The ‘Taster Day' for the Colchester Archdeaconary will be held on Saturday, June 7, at St Mary Bocking at the invitation of the Rector, Very Revd Philip Need.
