Transforming the communities of Essex & East London through Christ’s presence

Vicar of Galleywood

Location: St Michael & All Angels, Galleywood

St Michael’s is an evangelical church, with a generous orthodoxy, in a village on the outskirts of Chelmsford. St Michael’s has a strong leadership team, with two licenced lay ministers, two authorised local preachers, one evangelism enabler and one pastoral assistant. There is also an ordinand in training. The main Sunday morning congregation usually numbers about 80-90 adults and 10-20 children. A major building project, was recently completed, that has improved the provision for children, young people and families at the church. There is a church junior school in the parish

Since 2010 the parish has been in partnership with three neighbouring parishes. This was commissioned in early 2017 as a Mission and Ministry Unit called Southwest Chelmsford Churches (SWCC).

In SWCC, each parish’s PCC continues to make decisions for its church or churches. Decisions are only taken at unit level if all the PCCs agree. Each church has a ministry leadership team, and elects two or three ‘Lynchpins’ who work together with the clergy to enable the unit to work more effectively

The clergy work closely together, across the unit, and meet to pray and plan. Each minister has responsibilities for their specific church or churches, and also has a coordinating role across the unit. Eight key areas of ministry have been identified: worship, education, evangelism, pastoral care, community involvement, spiritual growth, pioneering and vision and vocation. Once an appointment is made these will be divided out anew. The clergy also take turns to be warden of ministers with responsibilities for coordinating meetings.

“Jesus, teach us all to love” is a vision prayer not a vision statement, because we can’t be this church (Bible-hearted, generation blending, using our time together to equip us to love when we are apart) without serious help from above.

Are you being called to St Michael’s; to share its spiritual journey for a while and strengthen it for the generations to come?

With mission and ministry as a focus, we are seeking a priest who can…

  • Enable us to grow numerically and widen our age profile
  • Foster collaborative ministry to strengthen our current links with Galleywood and the SWCC
  • Deepen our relationship with God to enable us to make disciples

Interviews will be held on Friday 18 May with familiarisation visits the day before on 17 May

The parish profile can be downloaded from the foot of this page, and a role description will be uploaded shortly
