Associate Priest (House for Duty) The Parish of Wanstead
Location: Wanstead, London E11
This flagship liberal catholic parish on the edge of Epping Forest, just moments by tube away from central London is seeking a team orientated, mission minded priest who thrives when both teaching and preaching and who will help us to grow in our reading and understanding of scripture. We are open to candidates from a variety of church traditions and career backgrounds.
We are praying for that spirit filled person to join us in us in the village of Wanstead, on the edge of Epping Forest, just a short journey from central London by tube.
You will thrive when you are both teaching and preaching, be down to earth and approachable and enjoy working as part of a team. Although we are a liberal, Anglo Catholic parish we are open minded about church tradition and are looking for a fellow disciple of any tradition who will both challenge us and help us to grow in our reading and understanding of scripture and in our ability to communicate the Gospel afresh in all areas of our lives. An academic background is a desirable quality but we would also be very happy to receive applications from candidates from a wide range of ministerial backgrounds.
The role is for an initial term of five years but is renewable for a further term of three years by mutual agreement. House For Duty equates to two days per week plus Sundays.
The parish of Wanstead is a lively London parish within the Diocese of Chelmsford with a Church of England aided primary school, two historic churches, an active choir, two part time youth workers, a licensed lay minister, a pastoral worker, a self supporting associate priest and a newly appointed full time Rector.
We are excited about growing our ministry team and hope that together we will enjoy reaching out in word and deed to more and to different people, growing daily as the Body of Christ in Wanstead through discipleship, evangelism, and mission.
The parish has recently purchased and renovated a beautiful, very quiet, two bedroom flat with access to communal gardens in one of central Wanstead’s most sought after residential streets, just moments from the shops and from Wanstead’s two underground stations.
Teaching, equipping and helping us and others to grow in discipleship and evangelism through leading by example, regular preaching, Bible study, nurture groups and faith courses. An ability to work with all ages and to take an active part in the varied life of an a diverse parish.
