THE vicar of St Margaret's church, Barking, Revd Gordon Tarry, has denounced a British National Party election campaign poster for misusing a quote from Jesus before the crucifixion.

The billboard campaign for the European Elections on June 4 portrays the BNP as martyrs and includes the gospel verse: ‘If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.'

"This campaign misrepresents totally Jesus Christ and the message put out by Jesus," said Gordon.

"Jesus condemned bigotry and racism, which is what the BNP stand for. All Christians will be outraged by this advertising."
