THE Essex & East London Hospital Chaplains’ Committee will be running its annual training day in Chelmsford on October 14 for all involved in Hospital Chaplaincy and Hospice Chaplaincy.

The day will have the theme ‘God's Mistakes? – Caring for Children and Young People with Life Shortening Conditions and their Families – Diagnosis through Bereavement’.

It will take place in the Chapter House, Cottage Place, Chelmsford CM1 1NL from 9.30am-4pm.

Ven Annette Cooper, Archdeacon of Colchester, says: “The speaker and facilitator will be Sister Frances Dominica, founder of Helen House in Oxford, the world's first children's hospice opened in November 1992, and of Douglas House, the world's first 'respice' that opened in February 2004 for young people aged 16-35.

“In any one year, Helen & Douglas House provides professional care and support to around 250 children and young adults, as well as their families.

“In 2006, Sister Frances received an OBE for services to health care and in 2007 was voted ‘Woman of the Year’. We are so fortunate to be able to welcome her to Essex.

“Non-chaplains are very welcome to come along to the training day too!”

Cost: £20 per person, including lunch and morning coffee.

For further information, contact senior trust chaplains, chaplaincy team leaders, multi-faith managers or the Archdeacon of Colchester (a.colchester@ chelmsford.anglican.org).

The closing date for bookings is October 9.
