Youth Adviser
Alice Smith
Before I moved to the Bradwell Area, I worked as a Youth and Children's Worker in Scarborough within an Urban Priority Parish.
I was involved in schools work, all age worship, running youth groups across the age ranges and set up a Rock Solid ecumenical youth project which extended into holiday clubs and other one off events.
I was also involved at a Diocesan level with a massive youth event in York Minster called XL and on the leadership team of CPAS Explorer camps and Falcon Camps.
After I got married, I moved to the North East of England, where I took a PGCE and trained as a teacher.
I then moved into a different type of youth work, running and managing a hostel for homeless young women in Gateshead, which was owned by a Christian charity.
As the Area Youth Adviser
As the Area Youth Adviser, my role encompasses a variety of aspects – advising yes, but also enthusing, motivating, encouraging, training and a multitude of other–ings!
Through my Christian life and youth work career, I have built up experience in a variety of denominations and styles of churchmanship as well as starting, running and managing a number of youth work projects in both urban and rural areas. I hope that this will enable me to quickly understand your context and particular needs and work with you to develop youth-work, which is relevant and applicable to your situation.
What can I offer you?
Here are some possibilities
- Starting youth work from scratch . . . where to begin, assessing need and ideas
- Planning ahead for when children’s work becomes youth work—reaching and keeping the tweenagers (10-13 years)
- Tailored training for your volunteers
- Support with residentials, holiday event planning and other ‘big scale’ youth projects
- Support with the process of recruiting and supporting paid youth workers
- Working with churches to integrate youth work into the whole life of the church
- One to one advice and mentoring for full time youth workers and/or volunteers
- Suggestions and supply of resources suitable for your particular group
- Reviews of your current activities and ministries and ideas for change and development
- Provision of news, current events and details of training opportunities
- Support and advice on working within an ecumenical framework and co-ordinating links with other churches and youth projects
And anything else you think I can help with!
I look forward to working with you! Do get in touch!
