Jesse Tree, God's Big Advent Story

A Jesse Tree is a centuries-old way of illustrating how God’s story leads to Jesus. A series of ornaments show symbols that represent important people and events in God’s Big Story.

Each day in Advent you hang another symbol on a tree and explore the story behind it through devotional readings and activities.

Celebrating the Nativity, Online Service

Many households will have nativity sets: some very old, some new, some home made. All made from a wide variety of different materials.

Churches often have a festival of nativities, creating a display of nativity sets owned by the people in the local community. As this might not be possible this year, here is a way for households to share nativity sets together and focus on the wonder of the Christmas story.

Online Posada 2020

Many churches will use the Posada idea through Advent to Christmas, where the nativity figures of Mary and Joseph travel to stay in different households, schools and businesses before arriving at church on Christmas Eve. As Mary and Joseph travel between households, the households pray for and bless one another. This resource translates the idea to an online context.

There's a lion in my Nativity by Lizzie Laferton

Bookshop price £4.99 FREE POSTAGE

This rhyming book with warm, quirky illustrations makes a beautiful Christmas gift for children who are 4-7 years old.

In this story of a Christmas nativity play, Mary thinks she is the star of the show. However, as the play goes on, she finds that every scene has been stolen by an unlikely character or object, such as a tent, a phone and a lion!

With the help of the narrator, Mary realises that each one actually teaches us a profound truth about Jesus. The tent teaches us that Jesus came to live among us humbly; the phone teaches us that Jesus came to connect us to God; and the lion shows us that Jesus is the king of the universe!

Along with Mary, readers will see that Jesus is the true star of the show and that it is wonderful to know him.

A better than anything Christmas by Barbara Reaoch

Bookshop Price £5.99 FREE POSTAGE

A Better Than Anything Christmas is the second Advent devotional for families from Barbara Reaoch, author of the very popular A Jesus Christmas.

These daily devotions in the Gospels give a thorough investigation of why Jesus came. In the lead-up to Christmas, families will explore 25 reasons why Jesus came, and they will see that what Jesus gives us is better than anything else we could wish for.

Each day there is a passage to read together, questions to think about, an explanation and a prayer. There are also age-appropriate application questions, some for younger children and some for older children, as well as journaling space so that each family member can write or draw their own response to what God has shown them.

So get each family member a copy of A Better Than Anything Christmas and a Bible, and find ten minutes a day in December to look at God's word together so that kids get more excited about Jesus than anything else that Christmas offers

Beginning with God at Christmas

Bookshop Price £2.99 FREE POSTAGE

Beginning with God at Christmas helps parents with young children to explore the real Christmas story with their child. Eight Bible stories cover the events of the first Christmas, and a quick introduction to who Jesus is. This special Christmas edition differs slightly from the regular Beginning with God books. The left side of each page is the same as usual containing the 'main course' which leads toddlers through that day's true story from the Bible. On the right side there is space for the sticker and also a picture to colour in (based on the sticker) that illustrates the story you have been reading about. This colouring picture is in place of the usual Appetiser menu and Snack for the journey. This makes the book even easier to use and especially accessible for families who don't normally read the Bible together. This Christmas edition provides a simple way to start your child in a regular habit of reading God's word and growing to know God, who loves them. It's an ideal introduction to the full 'Beginning with God' series.
