The bells will ring out at midday at St Nicolas Church, Witham, on Saturday 7th December to herald the opening of the Christmas Tree Festival. Around 50 twinkling and individually decorated Christmas trees, sponsored by local community groups and businesses, will fill the church. Mulled wine, coffee, tea, savoury pastries and homemade cakes will be on sale through out the two day event, and there will be children's craft activities, live organ music and a grand draw. You may even catch a glimpse of 'St Nicolas' himself enjoying the occasion. The festival will remain open until 6.00 pm, so there will be time to see the trees shimmering as the light fades and evening begins. The following morning, Sunday 8th December, the second day of the festival will open at 11.30 am with the children of the church choir singing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The quality of the children's singing is as amazing as Joseph's Dreamcoat itself! The festival will continue throughout Sunday and close with a special Songs of Praise service to give thanks for the festival and to celebrate the feast day of the church's patron saint, St Nicolas, which coincides with the festival.
