Meeting with either the Director or one of the Assistant Director or one of the Assistant Directors of Ordinands will be for a series of meetings helping you to clarify your vocation to ordained ministry and to prepare you to attend a national Bishops’ Advisory Panel (BAP).
These sessions will be based on the Bishop’s Criteria for Ministry and continued for 12 to 18 months and this will include some of the following steps:
Steps in the Shared Discernment Process
Reading and written Work
Placement in another Parish
If your experience of the Church of England is limited
Anglicanism Seminar
Held at the Cathedral twice each year
Interview with a Bishop’s Adviser
Someone experienced in discernment
Weekend at Pleshey
A time to pray together and have a go at things that happen at a Stage 2 Panel.
The DDO or ADDO will arrange for you to meet the Bishop who will decide if you should process to a Bishops’ Advisory Panel organised by the Ministry Division of the Church of England.
Selection Panels.
There are two Stages of the Selection Panels. Stage 1 is the Carousel Conversation; six short interviews conducted online. If the Feedback from those conversations is positive you may proceed to Stage 2, a 2-day residential conference at a retreat house. At the end of a Stage 2 Panel the Advisers write a report to the Bishop advising whether they recommend that you enter training for ordained ministry, or not, and giving details of what to do next. Recommendation is for training, not for ordination itself, and is not a guarantee of a job.
