Transforming the communities of Essex & East London through Christ’s presence

Bishop of Barking assures Muslim leaders of prayers and support

20th Jun 2017

Peter Hill, the Bishop of Barking, has sent the following letter to all the Muslim leaders in his Episcopal Area:

"An attack on any one faith is an attack on us all. To deliberately target worshipers leaving the Finsbury Park Mosque after fasting and prayer is appalling beyond words. As the Church of England in this part of East London, we stand together with our Muslim brothers and sisters in grief and sadness.  It is doubly hard to bear after a weekend when many of us shared and celebrated in 'Great Get Togethers' with friends and neighbours of all faiths and none in memory of Jo Cox MP, many of them ending with Iftars in this season of Ramadan.

"We must continue to engage together with love and hope, reaching out to all whom we are called to serve together across East London and Essex.  We do so with care and vigilance, standing against all violence, fear and suspicion.

"Please be assured of the prayers and support of our churches at this continuing demanding time for us all."
