Michaela Southworth appointed as new Diocesan Secretary and Chief Executive Officer

Michaela Southworth has been appointed as the new Diocesan Secretary and Chief Executive Officer for the Diocese of Chelmsford following a thorough recruitment and selection process.
Michaela brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role having previously worked in the banking sector before becoming Director of Finance and Resources for the Anglican Communion. She was recently appointed as Director of Finance for the Diocese of Chelmsford.
In a letter to church leaders, the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Revd Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani and the Chair of Chelmsford Diocese Board of Finance, Percy Lomax said:
“Those of you who have had the opportunity to work with Michaela in the short time she has been with us, will know that alongside her obvious skills, she brings an incredible energy and desire to serve the Kingdom of God and the churches and worshipping communities of Essex and East London.”
“The months and years ahead will bring considerable challenges and opportunities for our diocesan family and we give thanks that we will have someone of Michaela’s ability and energy in such a pivotal role. I’m sure you will join us in praying for Michaela as she starts her new ministry with us.”
Commenting on her appointment, Michaela Southworth said:
“It is a huge privilege to be appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer and Diocesan Secretary. I look forward to working alongside Bishop Guli and church leaders across Essex and East London as we seek to support mission and ministry in local communities across the Diocese. In the short time I’ve been in Chelmsford Diocese I’ve been inspired by the work of our churches and worshipping communities. I am excited by the opportunity to play a key role in supporting them in the future.”
Michaela will start her role as CEO and Diocesan Secretary on 1 June. The role became vacant in April 2020.
