New Chair for Board of Education

17th Sep 2014

Elwin Cockett, the Archdeacon of West Ham, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Chelmsford Diocesan Board of Education (DBE).

The Venerable Elwin Cockett, who has been Vice-Chair of the Board for many years, will work with and support Revd Tim Elbourne, the Diocesan Director of Education.

He succeeds John Wraw, the Bishop of Bradwell.

Stephen Cottrell, the Bishop of Chelmsford, said:

“We strive to put church schools at the centre of our mission and to continue developing all our work and ministry with children and young people.

“Bishop John has been Chair for the past couple of years and done an outstanding job.

“All the bishops will remain as committed to and involved in schools as ever and we look forward to supporting Elwin in this new role as, together, we seek to make the most of the opportunities our schools bring us for service and ministry.

Tim Elbourne added:

“We owe a huge debt to Bishop John who has chaired the DBE with great determination and Elwin will bring us helpful continuity as well as new perspectives from East London in the period ahead."
