What is prayer?
11th Nov 2019
Pocket-sized cards are prompting questions about prayer among children and adults in Essex and East London schools and churches.
The ‘’What is prayer?’ cards, written by Stephen Cottrell the Bishop of Chelmsford, are a short guide introducing prayer as listening, talking and wondering, with a simple four-step framework for prayer.
The new cards are the latest in the series of mini cards and complement previous sets on the Lord’s Prayer and Jesus.
Steve Kersys, Children’s & Families Adviser for the diocese of Chelmsford says:
These cards have been used in churches and schools around the Diocese and are particularly helpful for people who are exploring faith issues. They are great conversation starters and this latest card is an excellent introduction to prayer. It is also ideal as a gift for baptism couples, for families to use for prayer at home, for schools and for people attending Messy Church and Christmas services.”
More cards are planned in the series covering subjects including Festivals, Loss and Holy Communion.
Chelmsford Diocese has distributed about 35,000 cards to schools and churches.
The cards can be ordered free of charge by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with a contact address and details of the theme and the number of cards required.
