This year we celebrate 70 years of the reign of Her Majesty The Queen, with a special weekend of events and services held in Her Majesty’s honour – from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June.

Celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee across Essex and East London

Parish services and events

Churches can add the details of their special Platinum Jubilee services and events to the 'A Church Near You Website'. 

Details of services and events to mark the Jubilee can also be added to our online calendar here. We will take listings from our online calendar and publicise them more widely through our communications.

 

Celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Chelmsford Cathedral 

Sunday 5 June at 3.30pm
Chelmsford Cathedral is hosting a special service of Evensong for the Platinum Jubilee with special prayers of celebration for the life and service of Her Majesty the Queen.

Throughout the week there will be an exhibition of photographs and memories of the Queen’s visit to Chelmsford Cathedral in 2014. Come and see the photos and read the stories from those who were involved on the day.

 

Family activities
Tuesday 31 May, 10am to 12 noon ‘Stay and Play’ Lego

Come and celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at our family Stay and Play Lego session. Can you design and build your own castle, a throne fit for a Queen or maybe some accessories for the corgis? Let your imagination run wild in this free session in the Cathedral. Adults need to stay with their children throughout.

Free activity trails for children are also available in the Cathedral throughout the week.

 

Bellringing across our diocese 

Essex Association of Change Ringers,  in collaboration with the Church of England and the Royal Household are encouraging churches to collectively ring their bells on Friday 3 June to coincide with the national service of thanksgiving for Her Majesty the Queen’s reign being held at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Liturgical Resources 

The Church of England have published Liturgical Resources that can be use throughout 2022 to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The resources include special prayers approved by the Royal Household, an outline Service of Thanksgiving, and other material.

Resources for planning community celebrations

HOPE Together is working with a wide range of partners, including the Church of England, to help churches around the Commonwealth to mark this special occasion and, in particular, to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years of faith and service.

The National Churches Trust Jubilee Proclamation

The National Churches Trust have produced a special Jubilee Proclamation which thanks her Majesty the Queen for her patronage of church buildings and heritage. They are inviting churches to publish the proclamation in parish magazines, newsletters, on church websites and as posters on church noticeboards at the end of May or start of June.
