Choral Director - St Edward the Confessor, Romford

We are seeking a Choral Director to lead the Choir and Music at St Edward the Confessor, Romford, maintaining and developing our tradition of Anglican Choral Music whilst being open to more contemporary styles of Church Music. We are committed to strong investment in high quality music and securing our long-term musical future. To this end, we seek a Choral Director for the period of one year with an enthusiasm for working with young people and building choirs. There are two key objectives:

  1. the energetic engagement of local children and schools for recruitment;
  2. the delivery of our music for the Sunday Sung Eucharist, a monthly All Age Eucharist and monthly Choral Evensong.

The intention is that post holder will be supported by an Organ Scholar and a small team of professional & accomplished Organists, as well as Junior Soprano & Alto Choral Scholars (Sixth Formers) and Tenor & Baritone Choral Scholars (diploma- level students). In addition to the regular services described above, there are a weekly choir practices (Fridays 1815-1915 and Sundays 0915-1000) as well as occasional weekday services to mark the Church’s Year. Training for the choristers is provided using the Royal School of Music’s ‘Voice for Life’ Curriculum.

Remuneration & Safeguarding

There is an annual salary of £10k, which will be accompanied by the usual provision for a workplace pension and annual leave. The Choral Director will be required to apply for a Disclosure & Barring Service Certificate and undertake the Safeguarding Training required by the Diocese of Chelmsford. Although the post is initially for one year, the hope is that it may become a permanent position.
