Transforming the communities of Essex & East London through Christ’s presence

Priest in charge of the Newport benefice and Lead Chaplain at Stansted Airport

Location: North Essex

The Newport benefice consists of three parishes (with four churches) in North West Essex. It is close to the market town of Saffron Walden and has good rail and motorway links with Cambridge to the north and London to the south. Stansted Airport is easily accessed by local and motorway networks and is located some ten miles south of the benefice.

The five bedroomed vicarage, with separate study, is located in a cul-de-sac near the church and close to other local facilities in Newport.

The three parishes are different in character, but the church families enjoy each other’s company and worship services, and work well together to support each other and support their vicar.

We feel it is important that there is a clear vision of how our church will grow and that the new vicar should have the strategic skills to build teams to help us develop and achieve our shared goals.
We would love our next vicar to be able to use his or her strengths, talents and abilities, but also to recognise their own weaknesses and be able to delegate responsibility to others to make effective teams.

As individuals in our church family, we desire to be motivated, inspired, and encouraged to use our skills, abilities and talents in the service of God and we want to learn from God’s word in our worship services and in daily life, so that we are able to develop and make progress on our Christian journey and deepen our faith.

We seek to welcome those moving into our communities, including families with children, and to show them that faith in Christ is relevant today. We also aspire to help those in need in our community.

The main focus of the Lead/Coordinating Chaplain’s work at Stansted Airport is with the airport workforce and the departments and areas of airport life that come under the direct/indirect control of the Airport (MAG), the owners. The work will be for 2 days a week to be arranged with the Chaplaincy Team. The co-ordinating Chaplain will be the point of contact for the chaplaincy team. In addition, the Chaplain may be expected to attend at other times, if the need arises, and to be available for team meetings.
