The Diocese of Chelmsford is the Church of England in Essex and East London, serving a population of 3m people.  The Chelmsford Diocesan House of Retreat, based in the village of Pleshey, 7 miles north of Chelmsford, is a very special place within the diocese.  It is a place which Christians from all over the country value as a place to be refreshed, invigorated and challenged.

Working hours: Part-time working approximately 18.5 hours per week.

  • Tuesdays 10.00am – 2.00pm & 5.00pm-8.00pm
  • Wednesdays 5.00pm – 8.00pm
  • Fridays 10.00am – 2.00pm & 5.00pm-8.00pm. 
  • Every other weekend Saturday 10.00am – 2.00pm & 5.00pm-8.00pm, Sunday 10.00am – 2.00pm

Salary: £12.53 Per Hour

Benefits: We offer a range of benefits including hybrid and flexible working, 11% non-contributory pension scheme, 20 days holiday (pro rata for part time staff)

ROLE DUTIES

  • Prepare, cook and serve well-presented nutritious and well-balanced meals to a high quality, as set out in the menus provided by the Head Cook, and incorporating any special dietary requirements of the guests and visitors, which at times may need to be implemented without prior notice
  • Have full working knowledge of dishes regarding ingredients, cooking methods and correct portion sizes and apply in accordance to menu requirements.
  • In conjunction with other cooks operate effective stock rotation and assist the Kitchen Supervisor with monitoring stock levels to identify stock to be ordered.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the House of Retreat.

CRITERIA

  • Ability to prepare, cook and serve nutritious and well-balanced meals for up to approximately 30 guests.
  • Relevant Food Safety qualification.
  • Passionate about great food.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment
  • Personable, willing, and helpful with the ability to work on own initiative and respond to different needs and multiple priorities
