St Margaret’s Barking: Director of Music

We are looking for a new Director of Music to bring renewed life and energy to our worship and our parish.

As Director of Music you will oversee all aspects of the musical life in the parish. We have not had a choir since the pandemic so you will have the opportunity to bring this back to life and through it enhance our worship to the glory of God. Drawing on your gifts and experience, you will have the opportunity to develop music for a new Sunday evening service. You will be able to use music as a way of building relationships outside the church through the development of a Community Choir.

You will be: 

  • Committed to encouraging traditional church music while also being open to new forms of worship.
  • Able to lead and be part of a team, building on existing relationships and developing new ideas.
  • Dedicated to leading and developing others through Christian worship in a variety of styles to revitalize the rich musical tradition of St Margaret’s

Hours: 20 hours a week, to include Sunday mornings and evenings, a Team meeting on Thursday mornings along with a weekly Choir rehearsal and Community Choir rehearsal at times to be agreed.

Outside of contracted hours you will be free to do other work and to use Church premises for music lessons by agreement.

Salary: £18,500 per annum

Contract: This post is a three year fixed term contract.
