The Vice-Dean and Residentiary Canon is a Church Commissioners’ Canon and will be a full member of Chapter and charity trustee of the Cathedral.
This is a full-time appointment.

Chelmsford Cathedral seek an experienced and inspirational priest, who will:

  • take the lead in congregational care and development
  • support the Dean in both leading the ministry team, and making and developing fruitful relationships in the City and in our vibrant and diverse Diocese across Essex and East London
  •  hold and develop a social justice portfolio
  • serve as Chapter Safeguarding Lead with oversight of safeguarding leads in individual departments
  • facilitate the Cathedral’s ecological work in order to maintain our Rocha Gold Eco status and embed care for creation into our worship, outreach and public voice
  • join a fresh and ambitious senior team at an exciting time in the ministry and mission of Chelmsford Cathedral

The new Canon will be working within a clergy team that includes the Dean, Canon Precentor and Canon for Education.  They will also be a member of the Senior Leadership Team with the Dean, Precentor and Chief Officers, playing a key part in the delivery of Chapter’s vision and the smooth and compliant running of the Cathedral’s operations.
