The underlying principle of CMD in the diocese is that each minister should be responsible for his or her own life long learning. This is supported through the grants system.
However, each year we do organise a number of courses, mainly in conjunction with our regional CMD colleagues. These are:
- New Posts Conference
- Incumbency Skills Course
- Conflict and the Management of Change Courses
- Clergy Leadership Programme
- Renewing Vision Renewing Ministry
- Rural and Area Dean's Training
- Pre Retirement Course
CMD Events in 2017 organised by the Diocese of Chelmsford include....
“Brushing up” clergy events
After curacy and first incumbency, there are few opportunities for clergy to brush up on core skills and new knowledge in regard to key areas of ministry. To address this, the CMD team are offering a series of “Brushing up on..” workshops with input from experienced practitioners. Each workshop is limited to 12 people and offers a review of basics, new developments, and then addresses issues flagged up ahead of time by participants.
Workshops last from 10:00-12:30 followed by a sandwich lunch and cost £20, which can be funded from your annual CMD grant.

“Resilience” – the learned capacity to understand and respond intentionally and positively to stress
This one-day workshop is offered with the support of St Luke’s Healthcare for the Clergy. It is led by a clinical psychologist and has a focus on prevention, enabling clergy to understand and identify negative stress in any ministry context or level of seniority, and to develop individual attitudes and strategies to cultivate personal resilience.
The workshop lasts from 10:00-14:00 followed by a sandwich lunch. Numbers are limited to 25 per workshop and it can be paid for using your CMD grant.
Tuesday 12th September at St John's Stratford
