Generosity and Giving
Generosity and Giving
Communicating a message of generosity is key for your congregation and wider community to understand both the need and impact of their giving, as well as providing them with access to various mechanisms to donate in a way that suits them.
The information below suggests ways you can promote giving in your church communications. It includes copy for promoting the Parish Giving Scheme and information about a variety of templates that can be customised with your church colours and logo, online giving links and QR codes.
Regular and one-off giving
It’s important to both explain the need of regular giving and the impact that it has to your church community, as well as providing clear information about how to give. We have numerous templates available on our website for you to use for your church. If you’d like help with creating these, please contact our Parish Giving Advisors via giving@chelmsford.anglican.org.
Parish Giving Scheme
If your parish is registered for the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS), make sure you publicise this on your website, A Church Near You and your printed materials. Did you know, you can also accept one-off card donations through your donation page on the PGS website, and the Statement Receiver can download a QR code to use on printed materials.
Sample text for PGS giving:
A monthly gift by direct debit is the most effective way to give to the life and work of our church, especially through ways which reduce administration for our parish, as it helps us to fund our mission, budget and use resources wisely. We are very grateful for all donations, small or large - thank you.
The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) is a mechanism for regular giving, which we encourage you to use. Once you have decided on your gift amount, you can set up your regular gift to [church name] either:
- Online, visit www.parishgiving.org.uk.
- By phone, call 0333 002 1271, quoting code XXXXXXXXX.
- By post, ask our treasurer for a paper form.
Online Giving
If you accept card donations online (for example via PGS, Give a Little, Just Giving or Stewardship), use a QR code on your newsletter to link to your giving page. You can find out more about QR codes and digital giving on our website.
Don’t forget to also update your ‘A Church Near You’ page to accept online donations. Follow the instructions on the ACNY website.

Thanking church communities for their giving and explaining Parish Share
Parish Share 2026
We’ve prepared a short article for use across your church communications - whether in newsletters, magazines, or on your website - to help parishes thank their church communities for their generous giving. It also highlights our new Parish Share 2026 video, which you can use as a resource to continue important conversations about generosity and giving.
The video thanks people for their contributions and offers a clear, accessible explanation of Parish Share – what it is, how it works and how the funds are used across our diocese.

Called to Serve: Young Vocations
We are working to encourage young people to explore their sense of calling and vocation. As part of this, we have released a new series of videos featuring ministers across our diocese share their young vocations stories. If you would like to help highlight this new video series and young vocations generally across Chelmsford Diocese, we have created a range of resources for parishes to help you do so.
