A statement from the Bishop of Chelmsford
My thoughts and prayers and those of Anglicans across the Diocese of Chelmsford are with the Roman Catholic Church, and particularly Bishop Alan Williams and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brentwood.
In an increasingly divided and troubled world, Pope Francis was a powerful and important voice for unity. He will be remembered for his commitment to ecumenism and interfaith relations and as a passionate advocate for the poor, the marginalised and the least powerful, never more so than when speaking up for refugees and migrants.
As we mourn his death, we give thanks for his faith, leadership and compassion.
