First stop on Bishop Adam’s prayer journey around the Brentwood deanery

A wonderful Sunday morning at St Francis 🌿 It was a real joy to welcome Bishop Adam this morning as part of his prayer journey around our deanery – and we were honoured to be his very first stop! In his sermon, Bishop Adam reflected on the contract we have with God, drawing on the repeated words “I will” in today’s Gospel reading. He encouraged us to notice God’s promises to us, and to consider how we respond in trust and faith. As a tangible reminder of this journey, he presented us with a special card to help us showcase and continue his prayers as he visits churches across the deanery. At the end of the service, Bishop Adam stayed to pray personally with anyone who wished to receive prayer for something weighing on their heart – a deeply pastoral and meaningful time for many. Meanwhile, in Children’s Church, the children explored the reading from Acts, thinking about false idols in our lives. They created a cross to represent things we should not worship, and how these can be transformed and turned towards Jesus’ Cross instead – a thoughtful and creative discussion.
