In July 2022 Bishop Guli appointed Piers Northam as Bishop's Adviser on Identity, Sexuality and Relationships
Piers was recently ordained as a Deacon and serves at St Mary-at-Latton, Harlow, where he had previously served as a Licensed Lay Minister since 2016.
As Bishop’s Adviser, Piers provides advice, guidance and support to parishes and to Bishop Guli and the Bishop's Leadership Team, as well as to LGBTQ+ people in the Diocese.
Commenting on Piers Appointment, Bishop Guli said:
"I’m delighted that Piers has accepted my invitation to take on this role. Piers brings a wealth of experience from parish ministry and the roles he has served in for our Diocese. He will be able to provide both guidance and support to the leadership of the Diocese and to people in our church communities. This role will work in a similar way to the Women’s Ministry Adviser and Disability Adviser Roles that I announced in April. All three roles are voluntary, and Piers will require the support of colleagues as well as time to build a small team of volunteers. Please join me in praying for him as he starts this new chapter in his ministry"
Piers Northam welcomed his appointment as Bishop’s Adviser on Identity, Sexuality and Relationships:
"It’s a great privilege to have been invited by Bishop Guli to be the Bishop’s Adviser on Identity, Sexuality and Relationships for the Diocese. That’s quite a wide remit! As I take up this position I am looking to draw together a team of people with a range of lived experience to help support those with questions or concerns arising from these issues – particularly LGBTQ+ Christians – as well as supporting the Bishops and senior staff. I would ask for your prayers as I take up this role."
