The Archbishop’s Commission for Racial Justice
The Racial Justice Commission was appointed by the Archbishops in response to the Anti-racism Taskforce report, ‘From Lament to Action’. The Commission is an independent body bringing together a range of experience and expertise within and beyond the Church. The commission puts forward recommendations to help the Archbishops fulfil their commitments to identify, respond to, and root out systemic racism in the Church.
Archbishops' Commission for Racial Justice - Research Programme
The Archbishop’s Commission for Racial Justice is sponsoring research into the progression of Global Majority Heritage /UK Minoritised Ethnic leaders at all levels within the Church of England, with a view to improving their experience and removing barriers.
The level of participation of people of Global Majority Heritage (GMH) in the Church of England has been a source of concern for a long time. It is important to understand what is happening at different levels. For example, do people of GMH have a harder time in the discernment process, training and curacy and if so, why? Do they struggle more than others to make a transition from curacy to incumbency? Why are there so few GMH people in senior leadership roles in the Church? To what extent do GMH people aspire to contribute to church life through ministry and leadership?
The Archbishops’ Racial Justice Commission has commissioned research to ascertain the facts and the underlying reasons behind them.
