Advent season at St. Mary’s, Newport was filled with prayers, joy, and a profound sense of community
St. Mary's in Newport, Essex had a new incubent in their church for the festive season, and were visited by a curate of their chuch, the Revd Gavin Sunshine, who "became" a life-sized Christingle orange!
Jo, the Church Administrator for the benefice of Newport, Widdington, Quendon and Rickling Churches, has shared a message with us about Advent season at St Mary's:
"As we journeyed through the season of Advent this year, our parish was blessed with a truly special visitor all the way from the North Pole: the esteemed Reverend Polar. His arrival brought an immediate sense of joy, Reverend Polar was a delight once plugged in. With a gentle whirr, he would nod and wave to the congregation and visiting community, spreading smiles to all who saw him. He even delivered a surprisingly moving sermon on tidings of great warmth, before pausing with a twinkle in his painted eye to add, “Spiritually speaking, of course.” But the spirit of joyful sacrifice did not end there. We were also delighted to see our curate, Gavin, embrace one of the most vital roles of the Christingle service: he was dressed as a life-sized Christingle orange, he was a beacon of fruity, festive light. As we reminded him, it was a very important role for the newly ordained Vicar!
Our Advent season at St. Mary's was filled not just with preparation, but with prayers, laughter and a profound sense of community, a perfect reminder that JOY can be found in the most wonderfully unexpected ways."
