Thanks to your generosity, the closing total for the appeal was £10,466.

Funds raised will support Christian charity Housing Justice as they work in partnership with churches, community and faith groups across England and Wales to help provide those experiencing homelessness with a safe and stable home.

The charity’s work is channelled through four main projects - Refugee Hosting and Lodgings Programmes, Faith in Affordable Housing, The Winter Night Shelter Network, and Citadel.

Commenting on this year’s Appeal, The Right Reverend Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, The Bishop of Chelmsford said:

“Thank you to everyone how has donated to this year’s Bishop’s Lent Appeal. The funds raised will help support Housing Justice in their work across England and Wales to alleviate homelessness.

“Their community-driven and innovative response to homelessness and those in housing need gives individuals the opportunity not only to find suitable accommodation, but to create a home and a sense of belonging.

“I’m thankful for the generosity of those in our churches and worshipping communities and pleased that we are able to contribute to the variety of projects run by Housing Justice, some of which are happening in areas of our Diocese.”

  • Homelessness Sunday - 5th October 2025

Housing Justice runs Homelessness Sunday every year on the Sunday before World Homeless Day, which this year falls on 5 October. Homelessness Sunday encourages Churches and community groups to think about what they could do to alleviate homelessness in their communities.

Each year, Housing Justice creates resources for Churches wishing to hold their own Homelessness Sunday Service.

As well as liturgical resources, resources include information about homelessness, and suggestions for how local communities can help to alleviate homelessness in their area.
