On Ascension Day Chelmsford Diocesan Mothers’ Union President Maxine Paul, joined members of the Chelmsford Cathedral Mothers’ Union at the Cathedral to say midday prayers as part of her President’s 150th anniversary challenge.
Maxine Paul is saying midday prayers at a different historic site around the Chelmsford Diocese every month this year to celebrate 150 years since the founding of the Mothers' Union. Through her challenge, she is also raising money for the 150th anniversary fund, supporting Mothers' Union projects in the UK and around the world.

Chelmsford Diocese Mothers’ Union will mark its 150th anniversary with events across the diocese, including a fundraising afternoon tea in the Chapter House in Chelmsford on Saturday 22 August and the Chelmsford Diocesan Mothers' Union Anniversary.
Service in the Cathedral on Saturday 17 November – email secretary@muchelmsford.org.uk for more details.
The Mothers’ Union has around 4 million members across 84 countries, working to strengthen families and communities through faith, compassion, and practical support. Every day, members carry out quiet acts of service that bring hope and healing worldwide.
In our diocese, their impact is clear through projects such as English for Women in Chelmsford and the Trinity Child Contact Centre in Ilford. Local branches also lead a wide range of initiatives: knitting items for those in need, supporting schoolchildren through “Open the Book,” collecting essentials for refuges and foodbanks, and offering families much-needed breaks through the Away From It All scheme.
