On Sunday 28 April, people from across the Diocese gathered at Chelmsford Cathedral for the Collation, Installation and Admission of 33 Canons.
The College of Canons are a group of clergy and lay people who have been recognised by the Bishop as people who have given distinguished service to the Diocese or to the Church of England. Clergy Canons have right to wear the coat of arms of the Diocese on their preaching scarf, Lay Canons wear an academic gown edged with light blue bearing the cost of arms of the Diocese.
At the same service Mrs Justine Horseman-Sewell was welcomed as Chelmsford Cathedral's new Chief Operating Officer and Dr Elizabeth Henry was welcomed as Senior Non Executive Member of the Cathedral Chapter.
Sister Moira O'Sullivan, Prioress of the English Community of Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre, who was one of three Ecumenical Canon's admitted during the service also delivered the sermon in which she talked about our calling "to find the new gospel song, the song that is needed and relevant for our world today".
The service can be watched here, and Sr Moira's sermon begins at 53:47.
